How to Fix Bricked (Unbrick) Samsung Galaxy TAB

Many users have been looking for answers if they messed up and bricked their Samsung Galaxy TAB. Today I will give you some hints on how to fix this problem.

Disclaimer: This is my own terms and personal brief explanation, just correct me and add suggestion if I missed up something wrong.

Okay let's tackle what your device problem is.

Is your Galaxy Tab already bricked?

Freeze or Hang on logo.
The phone can boot after pressing the power button but it stuck or freeze on LOGO or home screen and after that it doesn't work any further.

Crashing/Shutdown on logo or often restarted.
Some users they call this problem as boot looping, the device will just automatically shuts off again and again.
At this state the phone can still reaches into Download Mode, Charge Mode and Service mode. They called this problem as SOFT-Bricked. The phone is not already totally bricked on this state.

What about if the Phone doesn't turns On or Power UP is it already bricked?

Some other factors if the device will not power Up is due to battery failure, firmware failure and hardware failure cause by water damaged or accidentally dropped.

Bricked phones will not powering up if the firmware is totally corrupted or damaged. We do not use the term bricked if the phone is still powering up or boot up. We used the term Dead Boot Jammed.

But one thing to remember that the device will not turns ON if the battery is totally drained and the device won't show a battery icon when the battery charger is plug-in.

Hardware failure issue can only determine after checking or diagnosing the firmware.

So how to fix the problems?
If the phone still reaches up to Download Mode (Volume Down+Power Button) and Recovery Mode(Volume Up+Power Buttons), You can still fix the phone by flashing the right firmware again. Firmwares comes on different versions according to your Country or Region and Service or Carrier providers. If you flash a wrong firmware you will messed up again.

This steps below are hints on how to diagnose any so-called bricked problem by users:

Hang, Frozen, Crashing, Auto Shutdown, Often restated:
If your Tab experience hang, frozen or often restarted without doing anything on it or flashing any firmware, You may first try to wipe the data cache of your device and restore it to its original factory default settings:

They called it a Hard reset:
Turn off the phone then Press the Volume Up and Power Button, your device will then boot into recovery mode. Select the wipe data or factory reset option.
This sometimes help and fix the problem but not certainly very often. If the problem still continues then you may need to re-install (flashing) the firmware again.

Flashing the Firmware: This process will install a fresh firmware on the device by Using an Original STOCK ROM and ODIN flasher tool.

- Find and download the Right Firmware of your Galaxy TAB make sure that you have selected the correct firmware for your Region or Carrier.
You may find intructions over xda-developer by K0sh:

Galaxy tab Won't Power Up, Doesn't charge or show battery icon.

- Try to use another working battery first or let the charger plug-in for about 8 hours (standard) or less, as long as the battery have the right voltage to power up the phone.

- If the battery seems working or already tried a new one, this time
In this case you may consider that your TAB is already bricked (Dead Boot) or totally messed up. Flashing the firmware by using ODIN will not work this time, because you can't access the phone into Download mode or service mode.

So, is the phone will still can be fix?

Yes! if your device still at its warranty period, we advice that you may send it back to your Samsung sevice centers for repairs. There's is nothing on the web that may help you fix it by your own. There are also many 3rd party mobile phone technicians nearby that can help you recover your TAB just unless if you have already void the warranty of your device.

We will show how does it is going to be fix here, just to inform anyone else for curiosity matter.

If the you TAB is totally messed up, the only way to recover it is by using special tools and the process is a little bit complicated and time consuming.

So what tools needed?
When the phone's firmware is totally damaged, since you cannot use ODIN to install the firmware on it, you will need a tool that can force the device to make you access and install the firmware unto it again. This tools are like the production tool where your Tab are like at the state of factory production.

Okay, instead of using the standard method by flashing through ODIN on phones USB, We  used a tool by a way of JTAG flashing. The JTAG flashing needs a JTAG device and a software downloader tool to connect the phone and regain access and install the firmware on the phone again.

And doing this is a bit complicated because it will need to dis-assemble the galaxy TAB and solder some part of it to make a connection from the JTAG device tool to the phone.

The picture below will show which part of  the galaxy TAB PCB board where to regain a connection.
It is the JTAG pinouts, where service centers get access to restore the phones firmware.

Increase the Speed of Your Internet Connection

Does your ISP deliver the speed you pay for? It’s rather easy to test your broadband internet speed. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. For one, ISPs usually promise an “up to” speed, so you can’t expect top performance at all times, that’s part of the deal. During high traffic times your ISP will suffer from high loads and will certainly not be able to deliver the maximum speed. Thus you’d best perform different speed tests at different time points, to see whether you ever reach the top speed. Also, when running a speed test, make sure no other applications are using the internet, else the result will not be accurate.
Speedtest.net is a good place to test your internet speed. They operate through servers all over the world, so you can connect to a server near you, which increases the accuracy of your result.
Test your Internet Speed
As you may realize, your internet speed does not only depend on your ISP, it also depends on the hardware and software used on your end of the line. If you are using hardware provided by your ISP, there shouldn’t be a problem. The bottleneck for speed often sits in the connecting computer.
Here are a few tips to Increase the Speed of Your Internet Connection

(1) Connecting Port

This may seem obvious, but you should connect to the internet though an ethernet port, rather than a serial, parallel or USB port. If ethernet is not an option, it may be advisable to update your hardware.

(2) Enough RAM

Make sure your system memory can handle the load! If you want to browse fast, you will need to close other applications in case your RAM is maxed out.

(3) Fast Browser

Mozilla based browsers generally are among the fastest browsers, while still being comfortable to use. Whichever open source browser you pick, make sure you don’t overload it with extensions or addons, those will just slow your browser down dramatically. On the other hand, if speed and RAM are not an issue, go for the luxury!
Also there are a number of tweaks and addons to increase the speed of your browser.

(4) Increase Speed under Windows XP Pro

Windows XP Professional reserves 20% of your bandwidth for services like updates or spyware checks. If you would like to exploit this reserve, do the following:
    1. Click [Windows] + [R] and type gpedit.msc in the Run window. 2. Under Computer Configuration expand the Administrative Templates. 3. Go to Network and click the QoS Packet Scheduler tab. 4. Double-click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and enable it. 5. Finally change the Bandwidth limit to 0% and click Apply. 6. Reboot your computer and enjoy.

(5) Tweak Tools

There are a number of programs that promise to increase your internet speed. They may work, they may not. They all apply a number of changes to optimize your network settings. Whether or not they will really improve your internet speed or which one will work the best for you greatly depends on your system, hence it’s difficult to recommend an application.
For further reading I will refer you to a set of articles found on About.com. Start with DSL and Cable Broadband Speed Tweaks and work your way through the links at the bottom.
Which tools and tweaks worked best for you?

How Do I bypass MegaUpload, Rapidshare, etc. download limit?

REMEMBER: You only need to do ONLY ONE of the followings, NOT all of them! If number one fails or is difficult to you, you can try number 2, so on so forth!
1. Use http://anonym.to or other free proxy sites.
Here’s how;

  • Say we take MegaUpload for the example. The download link would be something like http://www.megaupload.com/?abcdef
  • Now change the URL to the following format: http://anonym.to/?http://www.megaupload.com/?abcdef
  • Notice the addition to the URL? You are adding http://anonym.to/? to the beginning of your ORIGINAL download link URL.
  • You can ALSO use other free proxy sites and enter the Megaupload (or rapidshare, etc.) download link URL to the URL box you see on these sites. You can see a list of these free proxy sites on here (on the right-hand side).
2. Use Google Language Tools!
  • Go to Google Language tool page.
  • Scroll down and you’ll see “translate a web page”. Enter your download URL on the box below it.
  • Preferably choose “English” to “German” to translate, and hit the button “translate”.
3. Get a new IP
  • Megaupload, Rapidshare, FileFactory, and many other free file hosts track your download according to your IP. To bypass the download limit, request a new IP from your ISP!
  • You can do this by entering the following commands on your Dos command prompt. Go to your start menu; Start > Run > type “cmd”.
  • Type in this command: ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter.
  • Type in this command: ipconfig /release and hit enter.
  • Type in this command: ipconfig /renew and hit enter.
  • You got a new IP now!
  • Now erase your browser’s cookies and cache, and you can try downloading from MU, Rapidshare, etc. again.
4. Get yourself Megaupload SX 4.3; a free plugin for Firefox browser.
  • Download this plugin here and install it for your Firefox. Note that this one is ONLY for Megaupload, and it ONLY works with Mozilla Firefox web browser.
  • Need step-by-step instructions on how to install a plugin on Firefox? Read here.
5. Even better, use the PREMIUM LINK GENERATOR to generate PREMIUM download link!
  • Get high speed download, as what premium users have, for free!
  • Go to one of these sites, and enter your download link.
http://free.multidl.com/ (Megaupload, Rapidshare)
http://megadl.info/2008/07/09/megaupload-premium-link-downloader/ (Megaupload)
http://www.rsfox.com/generator.php (Rapidshare)
http://www.megafast.info/ (Megaupload)
http://www.rapidfile.us/ (Rapidshare)
http://www.rsgenerator.net/ (Rapidshare)
This is it for now. I’ll add more when I found new ways to get better downloads at Megaupload, Rapidshare, and more.

ASUSTek Introduces 'Mid-size' Mobile PC in Bid to Create New Market

ASUSTeK Computer Inc of Taiwan announced the "N10J" compact notebook PC Sept 19, 2008. Its 10.2-inch display is larger than 7- to 8-inch displays on "mini PCs," for which the company cultivated the market with its "Eee PC," and smaller than 12-inch displays on general mobile notebook PCs.

"The Eee PC is targeted at Internet users," said Kevin Du, general manager of ASUS Japan. "But we are targeting the N10J not only at Internet users but also at business users. We feel that the product will open another market, which is different from the one for notebook PCs."

The PC features Intel Corp's low power 1.6GHz "Atom" microprocessor along with NVIDIA Corp's "GeForce 9300M GS" graphics processing LSI (GPU). These processors allow for greater performance when playing video or running a game, for example, ASUS said.

It is also possible to turn off the GeForce 9300M GS to reduce power consumption. The battery pack can run the PC for about seven hours when the GPU is off and about four hours when it is on.

The N10J uses Microsoft Corp's "Windows Vista Home Premium" OS when operating as a standard PC, but it can start up in about eight seconds if the "Express Gate" function is used for limited operations such as the Web browser and "Skype."

The 10.2-inch display's resolution is 1024 x 600 dots. Its main memory is 2 Gbytes, while the built-in HDD is 160 Gbytes. The dimensions are 267 (w) x 195 (d) x 29mm (h). Given that the N10J is wider than a mini PC, it features a key pitch of about 18.5mm, which is close to that of a full-size keyboard. The weight is roughly 1.5kg including a battery pack.

There is no suggested retail price, but street pricing is expected to be ¥99,800 (approx US$938).

Toshiba Exhibits Ultrasmall Projector as Small as iPod

Toshiba Corp prototyped a projector as small as the iPod and exhibited it at the company's new products exhibition in Japan (See related article 1, 2).

The projector was on display at IFA 2008, a consumer electronics trade show that took place in Germany from Aug 29 to Sept 3, 2008. According to a demonstrator from the company, it is "the first time that Toshiba has exhibited the prototype in Japan."

It is extremely unusual for a leading Japanese manufacturer to exhibit an ultra compact projector of this kind. Recently, development of ultra compact projectors that are small enough to be fit in a breast pocket and can be driven by a battery is intensifying and drawing people's attention.

However, most of the prototypes were made by manufacturers outside Japan or venture companies. This unexpected exhibition caught the eyes of many visitors who came to check out Toshiba's new LCD TVs and DVD recorders.

The prototype has a luminance of about 7lm. In dark places, it is capable of projecting and displaying images of about 50 inches. It is equipped with the digital light processing (DLP) Pico chip set manufactured by Texas Instruments Inc (TI).

The DLP Pico chip set, which was designed exclusively for mobile devices, is composed of small versions of TI's MEMS device called "digital mirror device" (DMD) and its drive LSI, etc. The projector has 480 x 320 HVGA resolution. It is powered by a built-in battery, and the battery run time is less than one hour, Toshiba said.

The company didn't specify the dimensions of the projector. The incorporated optical module reportedly takes up almost half the size of the projector. It uses red, green and blue LEDs for the light source.

Toshiba aims to commercialize the projector in the first to the second quarter of 2009. The company hopes to improve the luminance to 10lm, extend the battery run time to two hours and increase the projection size to 60 inches before the commercialization. According to the company, the target weight of the product is around 100g.

The power consumption and the price are likely to be on par with those of other ultra compact projectors of the same kind, although the company avoided stating the specific figures. Therefore, the power consumption is expected to be 2-4W, and the price is likely to be US$300-400. The company also exhibited a mockup of a commercialized product.

According to Toshiba, those target specifications may be changed before the release. The company has to overcome technical problems such as the reduction of heat generated by the projector and the reduction of the main unit weight in order to put the product on the market. In addition, the company is faced with the problem that it is still uncertain about the main use of the projector, the demonstrator said.

Toshiba also exhibited a mockup of another projector as small as a USB memory at the site. It is expected to be used as a device externally connected to a mobile phone.

"We designed it as an external component because we are not sure whether a system embedded in a mobile device would truly be the best solution for personal use," the demonstrator said.

At the moment, the company is not planning to commercialize the USB memory-sized projector.
